The catch refers to the moment your blade enters the water, to the point where the blade is fully buried.

  • During the Catch phase you must keep your blade as forward of your feet as possible.
  • The catch is controlled by the bottom hand with the top hand following. The top hand should not rush forward and remain behind the bottom hand.
  • The catch needs to be quick and clean.
  • The position of the blade needs to be square to boat, vertical as possible and close to the boat.
  • At the end of the catch (when the blade is fully buried) you lock your blade into the water by gripping the water with your abdominal muscles.
