The Ballarat Amateur Canoe Club was first started up by a group of keen paddlers in 1983. In 1984 the club obtained a clubhouse which held 20 boats and was across the road from the lake. The president at the time saw an ad in the local paper for plans of a toilet block to be put on the lake foreshore. The club applied to have the clubrooms built on the back of the public toilets which was approved by council. The building was then built by Alex Galjon and a small number of keen club members. It was officially opened 9/11/1988.
Since being opened the Ballarat Canoe club has held 1985 and 1967 Australian sprint titles. Also the 1984, 86 and 88 Victorian sprint titles and more recently the 2014 Australian Marathon titles.
Although we are a relatively small club we have a lot of talented paddlers who have represented the club at state national and Olympic level.
